Thrilling family adventures week 7 — onigiris, cold ice sculptures and loving myself
February 13th - 16th: valentines day and counting down the days
- On February 14th, I finally purchased my tickets for Hadestown — you can get your tickets here!
- practiced self-love on valentine's day because this day, to me, represents loving oneself despite not having a partner.
- Both my parents were still in a fight, so I felt like a middle person all week communicating messages for both of them.
- The workload at work was beginning to subside — which is a very great feeling.
- Started to scout for books to read and I settled for 1984 by George Orwell.
February 17th: cold onigiri adventures and first Friday movie nights!
- Finally, it is my tax season day off! Super thrilled that I get to start my long weekend early.
- Today was a chilly windy day; as I thought spring was approaching, I was wrong. The temperature dropped below the double digits, hitting negative ten degrees.
- My older sister and I went to Paficifc Mall located in Markham, Ontario, and lined up for onigiri at Onigiri Kai Kyo Tei. We both got there super early since the lineup tends to get long. My older sister ordered the crab mayonnaise onigiri while I settled for the tuna onigiri.
- For the most part, the onigiri tasted great because it came with a generous amount of filling and was really saucy so the filling did not taste dry.
- My older sister and I were planning on heading to J-Town next, but due to the weather (and we took the wrong bus xD) we decided to cut our trip short and went home to relax with a nice hot cup of ginger tea.
- I spent the rest of the day watching a couple of episodes of Gilmore Girls and then I began to read 1984 by George Orwell.
- I officially made Fridays my movie nights to enjoy more of my free time instead of burning out. This week, I decided to watch Disney's Lady and the Tramp in honor of Valentine's week.
February 18th: baking day
Today was another cold day, so I decided to stay home and baked homemade chocolate chip muffins.- Scouted some potential spring jackets since spring is soon approaching and my spring jacket is beginning to tear apart; I have had this jacket since I graduated from high school which was in 2014.
- My older sister and I have plans to attend an ice sculpting event located Downtown tomorrow so I buckled down and completed some work for my art blog.
- I ended the night with a couple of episodes of Gilmore Girls (I am halfway through season 4!) and reading a few chapters of 1984; I am really enjoying the book so far!
February 19th: ice sculpture and bubble tea adventures!
- Woke up early to finish a work presentation on Tuesday.
- I went to Icefest located at Bloor-Yorkville with my older sister. The event runs from February 18th - 19th.
- the streets were crowded with people and it was hard to capture pictures.
- some of the ice sculptures were basic but I really enjoyed and admire the detailed ice sculptures that were inspired by greek mythology and fantasy-like creatures — like Hercules and the mermaid.
- Overall, the event was terrific but I disliked where some of the people were touching the ice which made the ice break or melt faster because people who haven't seen the sculpture yet will not be able to enjoy the beautiful creations. That said, I recommend going on the first day of the event rather than the second day since most of the ice sculptures were either broken or completely cracked, making it difficult to admire the piece. Lastly, I urge you to download the map before attending the event since the location of the sculptures will get confusing, hence, having the map will allow you to keep track of all the sculptures you see — there were approximately 30 sculptures!

- On the way back home, my sister and I went to Carlo's bakery for a visit! We ended up not purchasing anything, but we both admire how beautifully the cakes were decorated.
- Before heading home, my older sister and I stopped by at Chai time; we both ordered Thai milk tea with grass jelly.
